It's a different world than when I graduated college in the 80's, especially here in California. And is it just the US that puts the stigma on living with parents?
My young adult daughters can't afford rent that costs far more than our mortgage.
We're set for retirement and hope to leave plenty for them because we fear they'll need it. This generation can't amass wealth like we did, and they face different hardships than we did. Climate change and politics threaten many things we took for granted.
I want my kids out of my house and they want it too. One can't find full time in-person work, the other is too chronically ill to work. It's worth it to me to subsidize them as soon as possible to move out. I'll buy my freedom and their greater independence if I can.
